The backup status view shows you what happened to every device's backup jobs — whether they succeeded, failed, or were missed — along with timing, size, and any error message from the vendor. This is the primary view for the daily morning check.
⚠️ Which jobs appear here depends on the path that produced them. The platform's own captures (endpoint files and folders, and SaaS) feed this view directly. A connected third-party vendor's jobs appear only once the vendor-monitoring path is collecting — and that path is built but not yet collecting: no tenant has a vendor configured and end-to-end collection has not been proven, so a vendor-fed dashboard shows nothing today.
Vendor status information is pulled from the vendor API on each sync cycle (default: every 60 minutes per vendor, every 15 minutes for missed-backup detection); the platform's own captures report their status as jobs complete.
Dashboard Overview
The Dashboard shows a seven-day rollup at the top:
- Total jobs in the period
- Success count and rate
- Failure count
- Missed count
Use this view to answer "did everything back up last night?" before drilling into specific failures.
Reading the Jobs List
- Go to Jobs.
- By default, jobs are sorted by most recent. Filter by date range, status, or client to narrow the view.
- Each row shows: device name, client, vendor, backup type, status, start time, completion time, duration, and size.
Job Status Values
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
success |
Job completed without errors |
failed |
Job ran but completed with an error |
missed |
Device did not run a job within its expected interval |
running |
Job is currently in progress |
pending |
Job is queued but has not started |
cancelled |
Job was cancelled manually or by the vendor |
Investigating a Failed Job
- In the Jobs list, filter by Status = Failed.
- Click the failed job.
- The Error Message field contains the error text reported by the vendor.
- Check whether a PSA ticket was opened automatically — the Ticket ID field on the job shows the linked ticket.
- Review the device's recent job history to determine whether this is a one-off or part of a streak.
Investigating a Missed Backup
- Filter the Jobs list by Status = Missed.
- Click the missed job. The record shows when the device last had a successful backup.
- The missed-job record is synthetic — it was created by the Backups detector, not by the vendor.
- Check whether the vendor shows a job that was not synced yet. If the vendor ran a late job, it will appear after the next sync.
- If no job ran, investigate the device through RMM or the vendor console directly.
Coverage View
For a broader picture of which devices are behind:
- Go to Coverage → Gaps.
- Select a window (number of days).
- Every device with no successful backup in that window is listed with its last success date.
Failure Streaks
When a device records three or more consecutive failed jobs within 48 hours, the system opens a PSA ticket and triggers an OnCall page (if configured). You can see the streak in the job history for that device — consecutive failed rows without a success in between.
FAQ
The job shows as Missed but the vendor says it ran. The vendor job may not have synced yet, or the company mapping may be incorrect. Click Sync Now on the vendor record to pull the latest data. If it still does not appear, check the company-to-client mapping on the vendor.
Why does a job show no size? Size is reported by the vendor. If the vendor did not return a size value (common with missed or failed jobs), the field is empty.
How far back does job history go? Job records are retained according to your retention policy configuration. The Jobs list can be filtered to any date range within the retained window.
