Backups manages restore requests through its own agent path. You can restore from a specific backup job or search the file catalog to find a particular file version and restore it directly. All restore requests are tracked in the Restores list so you have a full audit trail.
The catalog contains file metadata (path, size, checksum, version) but not the actual file contents. The bytes are pulled from the platform's own object storage when you execute the restore.
Browsing Backup Snapshots via Jobs
- Go to Jobs.
- Find the successful backup job that contains the data you need. Filter by device, client, and date to narrow the list.
- Click the job row to open the detail.
- Click Restore From to start a restore request from this snapshot.
Searching for a Specific File
Use the Catalog when you know the file path or name but not which job to use:
- Go to Catalog.
- Type part of the file path or filename in the search box.
- Results show every backup version of matching files, along with the source device, backup job, size, and checksum.
- Find the version you want, click the row, and click Restore to open the restore request form pre-filled with that file's details.
Creating a Restore Request
Whether you start from the Jobs view or the Catalog, the restore request form asks for the same information:
-
Restore type — choose from:
- File-level (one or more files from the backup) — the path the platform performs today. The endpoint agent claims the request and writes the recovered files into a staging tree on the target device; it does not overwrite the live copy in place.
- Alternate location (restore to a different device or path). There is no Full device / bare-metal option — see Bare-Metal Restore.
-
Point-in-time — the snapshot date and time to restore from.
- Target device — for alternate-location restores, enter the destination device.
- Click Request. The restore is queued and appears in the Restores list.
Monitoring a Restore
- Go to Restores.
- Find the request. Status starts as
pendingand moves torunningonce the agent begins the job, then tosucceededorfailedon completion. (The endpoint restore record the agent writes usessucceeded, and the Restores list shows that value.) - Backups updates the restore status as the agent reports progress.
- If the restore stays at
pending, confirm the target device is online and its agent is running — the request is served on the agent's next poll.
Cancelling a Restore
- Open the restore record from the Restores list.
- Click Cancel.
- Status moves to
cancelledonce confirmed.
FAQ
Can I restore to a different path than the original? Yes, choose Alternate Location as the restore type and specify the target device.
The file I need is not in the Catalog. The catalog is built from metadata recorded during backup. If a file was not indexed, it will not appear. In that case, start from the Jobs view and select the file from the job's snapshot.
How long does a restore take? Restore time depends on the size of the data and the target device's speed. Backups tracks status but does not control the restore speed.
