Backups maintains a client directory that maps backup jobs to the MSP clients they belong to. Every device and job in the system is associated with a client, so you can filter, report, and track coverage per client across your entire portfolio.
Clients are linked to vendor companies through company mappings on each vendor connection, and to PSA company records through the PSA company ID field.
Adding a Client
- Go to Clients and click New Client.
- Fill in:
- Name — the client's company name as you want it to appear in Backups.
- Domain — the client's primary domain (used for identification and matching).
- Primary Contact — name, email, and phone for the main point of contact.
- Address — city, state, and country if needed for reporting.
- PSA Company ID — the company identifier in your PSA system. This links PSA tickets opened by Backups to the correct client.
- Notes — any freeform context about this client.
- Click Save.
Editing a Client
- Open the client from the Clients list.
- Click Edit (PUT action on the client record).
- Update any fields and save.
Removing a Client
- Open the client.
- Click Delete.
- The client is soft-deleted. Historical job records referencing the client are retained.
Linking Vendors to Clients
⚠️ This vendor path is built but not yet collecting — no tenant has a vendor configured and end-to-end collection has not been proven — so a vendor connection feeds no jobs to map today, and the steps below describe the intended behaviour once collection is proven. The platform's own capture paths (the endpoint agent, and SaaS connections) do not depend on a vendor connection and record their own jobs.
When you connect a backup vendor, jobs from that vendor carry the vendor's own company identifiers. You must map those to Backups clients so jobs land in the right place:
- Open the vendor record (go to Vendors and select it).
- Find Company Mappings.
- For each vendor company, select the matching Backups client.
- Save. From the next sync forward, jobs from that vendor company appear under the correct client.
Viewing Per-Client Backup Status
- Go to Jobs.
- Use the Client filter to narrow the view to one client.
- Review job status, last success, and any failures or missed backups for that client.
To see a coverage summary for a specific client:
- Go to Coverage → Gaps.
- Filter by client. Devices belonging to that client that have missed their backup window are listed.
Per-Client Storage Usage
Storage utilization is tracked at the organization level, but each job record includes the client and size. For a breakdown by client:
- Go to Reports → Summary.
- Filter the report by client to see storage consumed per client within a period.
Per-Client PSA Integration
Each client record holds a PSA Company ID. When Backups opens a PSA ticket for a missed backup or failure streak on a device belonging to that client, the ticket is filed under that company in the PSA. Confirm the PSA company ID is correct for each client so tickets route to the right company record.
FAQ
A device is showing under the wrong client. Update the company mapping on the vendor record. Once corrected, click Sync Now on the vendor. The device's existing job records are not retroactively re-filed, but new jobs will land under the correct client. ⚠️ While the vendor path is not yet collecting there are no vendor-fed jobs to re-file — this applies once collection is proven.
Do I need to create a client before connecting a vendor? You can connect the vendor first and map companies to clients afterward. ⚠️ While the vendor path is not yet collecting, no jobs are ingested to map; once it is, jobs from unmapped companies are ingested but appear without a client association. Add the client and then complete the mapping to assign them.
Can I see a client's restore history? Yes. Go to Restores and filter by client. All restore requests associated with that client's devices are listed.
