Legal is The One Stack's legal matter and contract management product. It gives MSPs and their teams one place to handle matters, contracts, compliance documents, policies, deadlines, and billable time — without routing work through separate tools. An attorneys directory and AI advisory layer are included for teams that need outside counsel or automated document analysis.
Who It Is For
Legal is built for MSP administrators, business owners, and operations teams that deal with client contracts, service agreements, compliance obligations, and policy maintenance. It also supports connected attorneys who review and mark up documents on behalf of an organization.
Document Types Supported
Legal handles several distinct document categories:
- Matter documents — files attached to a legal matter; can be uploaded, generated from a template, sent for e-signature, and marked up with inline comments
- Contracts — standalone agreements with draft, sent, and signed statuses; tracked separately from matters
- Compliance documents — per-client signed agreements such as MSAs, BAAs, and SOC reports, with expiry and renewal tracking
- Policies — internal governance documents (security policy, AUP, data handling) that your organization authors and publishes
- Policy templates — reusable starting points for policy authoring, organized by framework
Core Workflow Overview
Work in Legal is organized around matters. A matter is a unit of legal work — a contract negotiation, a compliance review, a dispute — that moves through a defined review lifecycle: Draft, Submitted, Under Review, Approved or Returned, and Archived. A matter whose document is executed through e-signature advances to Signed — the post-execution state. Documents, messages, comments, and time entries all attach to a matter.
Outside of matters, you can also manage standalone contracts, maintain compliance document records per client, track deadlines with a reminder window, and record attorney time entries, which can be compiled into a draft invoice — no invoice can be sent from Legal.
Plan Requirements
Legal requires at minimum the Starter plan. Some features (AI advisory, attorney connections) may depend on additional configuration by your administrator.
FAQ
Do I need to be a lawyer to use Legal? No. Legal is designed for operations and admin staff who manage contracts and compliance on behalf of their MSP. The attorneys directory and AI features help when specialist input is needed.
Is Legal only for MSPs? It was originally built with MSPs in mind but works for any team that manages contracts, compliance obligations, and legal deadlines. Client records can optionally link to PSA company records if your org uses a PSA.
Where do deleted documents go? Deletes in Legal are soft for matters, documents, contracts and policies — the record is flagged as deleted and kept. A few rows are removed outright instead: a document comment with no replies, a customer document override an administrator reverts to the org default, an org's setup-wizard state on reset, and an automation policy an administrator deletes. The audit log is only ever added to — there is no code path that edits or deletes an entry.
