In progress — Quiet is part of The One Stack and is still being built. Some actions described may not be available yet. The MSP-side Quiet console is not in the app launcher yet.
Edge and Quiet both come up when a client asks about VPN, but they solve different problems. Use this page to pick the right one before you quote.
The short answer
- The client needs its own static egress IP, or a dedicated, always-on tunnel for its site: sell Edge. Each Edge site gets its own cloud concentrator (a WireGuard gateway) and static egress IP.
- The client is a self-service Quiet customer that bought IT from your storefront: their VPN egress comes from a shared pool. Quiet has no dedicated concentrator and no dedicated IP, and no setting in Quiet turns one on.
Side by side
| Edge | Quiet | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | Your managed clients' sites | Business customers who buy self-service IT from your Quiet storefront |
| Egress | A dedicated concentrator and static egress IP per site | Shared egress pool |
| Dedicated IP | Yes, shown on the tenant page under Static IPs | No |
| Where you manage it |
/edge in the Hub |
The Quiet console (see below) |
| Pricing | $49 per site per month, plus $4 per protected user per month | Set by the bundles you sell on your storefront |
| Hardware | Software only: The One Edge client app plus the cloud concentrator. Edge Bridges (the old on-site appliances) are retired and no longer sold. | Not applicable |
Questions to ask the client
- Does a vendor, bank or line-of-business app need to see traffic from one fixed IP? If yes, that's Edge.
- Do you need per-site policy, such as steering rules, DNS, split tunneling, geo-blocking or bandwidth/QoS? Those are set per tenant in Edge.
- Are they a Quiet storefront customer rather than a managed client? If so, they get shared egress. If they later need a dedicated IP, that's an Edge sale, not a Quiet toggle.
What not to promise
- Don't promise a dedicated IP on Quiet.
- Don't promise that Edge is "allow-list compatible" with third-party services. Edge makes no such claim.
- Don't sell Edge Bridge appliances. Edge is software only.
Where Quiet stands today
Quiet's MSP-side console isn't in the launcher for the MSP-use-only launch. See Quiet — MSP operator guide for details. Clients already on Quiet see their portal as described in What Quiet gives you.
