Overview
A collector is the software at a site that does all the work: it discovers devices, runs monitors and speedtests, builds topology, and terminates remote-access tunnels. You enroll a collector by minting a one-time enrollment token for a site and running the installer on a box at that location. The collector exchanges the one-time token for a long-lived credential and comes online.
Before You Start
Create the site first (see "Create a Site") — you can't enroll a collector without a site to attach it to. The Collectors page will tell you to add a site first if none exists.
Steps
- Open Pulse → Collectors.
- Click Add collector.
- Choose how the collector will be installed:
- RMM agent — run the collector alongside an existing The One RMM agent already on a device at the site (no separate box needed).
- Manual install — run a standalone installer on a dedicated box, then paste the token.
- Select the site this collector serves.
- Click Mint enrollment token. A one-time token is generated for that site.
-
Copy the token and use it on the target box:
- For the RMM-agent path, the token is consumed by the agent-side collector module.
- For the manual path, run the installer and paste the token when prompted.
- The collector exchanges the one-time token for a long-lived credential and registers itself. It appears on the Collectors page, moving from Pending enrollment to Active once it checks in.
Collector States
- Active — checked in and working.
- Pending enrollment — token minted, collector hasn't completed the exchange yet.
- Offline — was active, hasn't checked in recently.
- Deauthorized — you revoked it; its long-lived token is no longer accepted.
Deauthorizing a Collector
Open the collector and choose Deauthorize. It stops reporting and its long-lived token is permanently rejected — use this when you retire a box or suspect a token was exposed. You'll need to enroll a fresh collector to resume monitoring that site.
Troubleshooting
Collector stays in Pending enrollment. The token is one-time and the collector never completed the exchange. Confirm the installer ran without error and the box can reach the Pulse endpoint, then mint a fresh token.
Collector went Offline. It stopped checking in. Confirm the box is powered on, the collector service is running, and outbound connectivity is intact. The site's monitors and speedtests pause while its collector is offline.
