Overview
Software Inventory shows every application installed on enrolled devices. Technicians use it to audit software across clients, find unauthorized or unlicensed software, and identify which devices have a specific application installed or missing.
Viewing Software on a Single Device
- Open RMM and go to Devices.
- Click the device you want to inspect.
- Select the Software tab on the device detail page.
The list shows each installed application with its name, version, publisher, and install date. The list is refreshed every time the agent heartbeats — typically within a few minutes of a software change on the device.
The agent captures up to 2,000 installed applications per device.
Viewing Software Across All Devices
- Go to Software Inventory in the RMM navigation (or from a client account, open their Software view).
- The fleet-wide list shows every unique application across all managed devices, with a count of how many devices have each application.
This view answers questions like "how many devices have Zoom installed?" or "which devices have an old version of Adobe Reader?"
Filtering the Software List
Use the filter and search controls to narrow the inventory:
- Search by name — type part of an application name to find it.
- Filter by client — show software for a specific organization only.
- Filter by version — find devices running a specific version of an application.
- Filter by publisher — group software by vendor.
Finding Devices with a Specific Application
- Search for the application name in the fleet-wide software inventory.
- Click the application row.
- The detail shows every device that has this application installed, with its version on each device.
This is useful for license audits or for identifying scope when a vulnerability affects a specific application.
Frequently Asked Questions
A device installed new software but it is not showing in the inventory yet.
The inventory updates on the agent's next heartbeat. Wait a few minutes and refresh. If it still does not appear, confirm the agent is online and heartbeating.
How far back does software history go?
The inventory reflects the current state as of the last heartbeat. It is not a historical log of installs and uninstalls — it shows what is installed right now.
Can I see if a device is missing a required application?
The inventory shows what is present, not what is absent. To check for a required application, search for it in the fleet view and compare the device list against the devices that should have it.
The inventory shows more than 2,000 apps on one device. Is that possible?
The agent caps inventory collection at 2,000 applications per device. Devices with extremely large software catalogs will show the first 2,000 entries.
Can I export the software inventory?
Yes. Go to Reports and run a Software Audit report to export software data across your fleet. See Reports.
