Overview
The Gantt view displays a project's tasks as horizontal bars on a timeline, making it easy to see the overall schedule, how tasks relate to each other, and which work sits on the critical path. Project managers use the Gantt to identify scheduling conflicts, understand task dependencies, and communicate timelines to stakeholders.
Open the Gantt View
- Open a project.
- Click Gantt in the view switcher at the top of the page.
Tasks appear as bars. The bar's left edge is the start date and the right edge is the due date. Tasks without both a start date and a due date do not appear on the Gantt.
Add Dates to Tasks
If tasks are missing from the Gantt, open each task and set both a Start Date and a Due Date. Tasks with only a due date (and no start date) are excluded from the timeline.
View Dependencies
Dependency lines connect tasks to show which task must finish (or start) before another can begin. Dependency types:
- Finish-to-Start — the most common. Task B cannot start until Task A finishes.
- Start-to-Start — Task B cannot start until Task A starts.
- Start-to-Finish — Task B cannot finish until Task A starts.
- Finish-to-Finish — Task B cannot finish until Task A finishes.
To add a dependency, open a task and use the Dependencies section. See Tasks and Subtasks.
Critical Path
The critical path highlights the sequence of tasks that determines the earliest possible project completion date. Tasks on the critical path are shown in a distinct color.
The critical path recalculates automatically as you add or change task dependencies and durations. If any task on the critical path slips, the project end date moves accordingly.
To see the full dependency graph, use the Dependency Graph view available from the project menu. This shows tasks as nodes with directional edges.
Navigate the Timeline
- Use the zoom controls to switch between day, week, and month granularity.
- Drag the timeline left or right to move through time.
- Click a task bar to open the task detail panel without leaving the Gantt.
Baselines
A baseline is a snapshot of the planned schedule at a point in time. Use baselines to compare the current plan against what was originally scheduled.
- Open the project menu and click Save Baseline.
- Give the baseline a name (e.g., "Original Plan — April 2026").
- To compare, open the project menu and click View Baseline Comparison.
The comparison view overlays the original bars in a different color so you can see slippage at a glance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I drag task bars to reschedule?
The Gantt is primarily a read-and-analyze view. To change dates, open the task directly and edit the start and due date fields.
Does the critical path auto-update?
Yes. Every time you change a dependency or duration, the critical path recalculates automatically.
Tasks are showing but dependencies aren't drawn.
Dependencies are only drawn when the linked tasks both have start and due dates set. If either task is missing a date, the line won't appear.
